Helping leaders identify the small compromises, cultural shifts, & decisions that slowly move organizations away from success
John Dixon is a leadership consultant, speaker, and retired fire service leader with nearly 30 years of executive and operational leadership experience. He helps organizations strengthen culture, develop leaders, and prevent organizational drift before small problems become major failures.
Practical leadership solutions tailored to your organization's unique challenges, helping leaders strengthen culture, improve performance, and prevent organizational drift.
Every organization drifts. The DRIFT assessment helps leaders identify the subtle warning signs, strengthen organizational culture, and prevent small compromises from becoming major failures.
Engaging, experience-driven presentations that challenge leaders to think differently about culture, accountability, and the small decisions that shape organizational success.
John Dixon's new book explores how small deviations, repeated over time, can become accepted behavior and gradually change an organization's trajectory.
THE DRIFT FRAMEWORK
D — Deviations
Small departures from established standards, policies, expectations, or best practices.
R — Repeatedly
The deviation happens again and again. What was once an exception begins to feel routine.
I — Influence
Those repeated deviations begin influencing decisions, behaviors, expectations, and culture.
F — Future
The accumulated changes begin shaping what the organization will accept and tolerate going forward.
T — Trajectory
Eventually, the organization is operating in a different place than it originally intended.
In simple terms:
A deviation becomes a pattern. A pattern becomes accepted. What is accepted becomes normal. What becomes normal changes the organization's trajectory.
By the time DRIFT becomes obvious to everyone, it has usually been happening for a long time.
John is all-in when it comes to leading people and going above the call of duty to help others. As an instructor, John knows exactly how to engage his audience and make complex things simple. Working with him as a fellow EGH Advocate has been a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!
John has a true passion for the fire service and leading others along the right path: A path of encouragement, discipline, accountability, and one who mentors others. Many people will tell you that they are a good friend, a good husband, a good father, and a good firefighter. While my brother John Dixon shows you and does so with humility. This is the mark of a leader. John would never give himself this praise therefore I will do so on his behalf for he deserves it. He pushes forward, keeps learning, and keeps trying no matter the environment. His passion is contagious and if you hang around him like I have you cannot help but be encouraged by him.
John is a highly experienced and committed fire service professional that continually sets the example for continuous improvement. He is driven to provide the very best in leadership instruction to both new and veteran firefighters, particularly through his program "Normalization of Deviance". John is also a passionate advocate for firefighter health and wellness and served as a New Jersey NFFF advocate. John is without a doubt an asset to all who he collaborates with.
